WHAT IS A LIGHTING CONSULTANT?

A lighting consultant is like a designer who focuses only on how light works in a space. They don’t sell you fixtures like a store, and they’re not the electrician who wires things up — instead, they’re the expert who helps you plan the lighting so it looks good, works properly, and prevents costly mistakes.

Here’s how we help:

  • Create a Detailed Lighting Plan
We look at your house plans (or existing space) and figure out where lights, switches, and outlets should go before any wires or fixtures go in.

  • Time to Digest the Design
Having a plan on paper allows you time to review and think through each room, so outlets, switches, and lighting needs aren’t overlooked during a rushed on-site walk-through with the electrician.

  • Selection Guidance
You tell us what you want and we present you with options and parameters to create the desired effects.

  • Expert Placement
Our expertise ensures every fixture is placed for maximum effect (sometimes just moving a light a couple of feet makes a world of difference).

  • Budget Clarity
With the plan, your electrician can provide a realistic budget early, so you can adjust before work begins.

  • Clear Communication
Your vision is on paper, now your contractor and electrician have a clear lighting plan so everyone is on the same page and no detail is forgotten.

So think of a lighting consultant as your lighting strategist — the same way you’d hire an architect for structure or a landscape designer for your yard. They don’t just make things “bright,” they make sure your space feels and functions exactly the way you want.

WHY INVEST IN A LIGHTING CONSULTANT?

Because light is the one element of your space you experience every single day — morning to night. Done right, it makes your space feel welcoming, functional, and beautifully intentional. Done wrong, you’re stuck with dark corners, glare, wasted energy, or costly re-work once you realize something was overlooked.

Here’s what a lighting consultant brings to your project:

  • Problem Prevention
We catch issues before they’re built in. Missed outlets, misplaced fixtures, under-lit areas — these are expensive to change later but simple to solve on paper.

  • A Tailored Plan (not cookie-cutter lighting)
Electricians can install lights, but they don’t specialize in designing light that supports how you live, work or play.

  • Integration with Your Vision
Lighting ties together architecture, finishes, and furniture. We make sure it highlights what you’ve invested in — that feature wall, that island, that artwork — instead of leaving it in shadow.

  • Save Time + Money
Strategic lighting design prevents costly change orders, helps you choose the right lighting once (not three times), and ensures your home doesn’t need a redo when you realize it “just doesn’t feel right.”

  • Clear Communication with Your Team
A clear lighting plan lets you communicate your ideas to builders, electricians, and designers, ensuring your project looks and functions exactly how you imagined.

Good lighting is the difference between a space that’s simply built, and a space that feels alive, intentional, and yours. It’s not just about lights — it’s about how you experience your space every single day.

PROCESS

Every space deserves lighting that feels as good as it looks. Our collaborative process blends creative vision with technical precision—so your project unfolds smoothly, from concept to construction.

DESIGNED WITH INTENTION.
DELIVERED WITH CARE.

DISCOVERY

We begin with a complimentary consultation to understand your vision, review plans or photos, and discuss the scope of your project. You’ll receive a custom estimate based on your needs and goals.

DESIGN + PLANNING

Our first in-depth consultation focuses on how your space will function and feel. We then prepare and issue a preliminary lighting design and legend package, including thoughtful fixture placement, product suggestions, and control strategies.

REVIEW + COORDINATION

In a follow-up consultation, we review the initial design together, answer questions, and develop any refinements. One revision (up to 2 hours) is included to ensure the design fully aligns with your intent. Finalized lighting plans and legends are then issued, ready for your team to use.

CONTINUED SUPPORT

We’re available to support your team throughout the build, whether that’s coordinating with trades, providing clarification, or conducting a site visit by request. Optional printed plan sets are also available for ease on-site.

HELPFUL ANSWERS

Yes — we offer virtual or in-person consultations to review spaces, plans, and fixture recommendations. Whether you are in a different city, province, or country we ensure your space receives the same expert design and attention to detail as if we were right there with you. Our virtual consultations and detailed digital lighting plans make it easy to support your project wherever you are. Distance is never a barrier.

Come meet with us for an initial consultation for free! Like what you hear? We provide a clear estimate upfront so you know what to expect, with no hidden fees. Pricing varies depending on the size and complexity of your project.

As early as possible! If you have a plan we can start working before construction begins. Early involvement lets us integrate the lighting plan into your project from the start, preventing costly changes such as misplaced outlets, or poorly placed fixtures.

Small projects can take just a few days, while full-home or commercial plans may take a few weeks. Timing is clearly outlined at the start so you can plan accordingly. The benefit of starting early is allowing you time to digest the plan, review room by room, make adjustments and get an estimate for the work from your electrician before any work has even begun.

You don’t need to know everything — we guide you based on your goals, and the space itself. We provide options and examples so you can make informed choices.

Very little — we handle technical placement, load considerations, and layering. You provide feedback on style, features, mood and functionality.

Not at all (assuming we are brought into your project early) — having a plan actually speeds things up by preventing on-site changes and miscommunications.

Getting started is simple:
1. Contact us!
2. Tell us about your project, and we’ll set up a consultation to review your space and goals.

Yes — one set of changes is included in our services. We encourage reviewing the plan carefully. Minor adjustments are easy to make before installation begins, ensuring your lighting meets your vision.

Definitely. Our plans include quantities of lights, switches and outlets helping your electrician provide a realistic budget early in the process. Out of budget? We can help you shrink the dream list making educated decisions to stay on target.

Electricians handle wiring safely, but they aren’t lighting experts. Making on-the-spot decisions during a long walkthrough often leads to overlooked details. A lighting consultant gives you time to review and perfect your plan, ensuring every light, switch, and outlet is exactly where it should be — saving time, money, and headaches — and most importantly making sure you get exactly what you wanted!
